A Compassionate Renunciation of Nuclear Weapons

I am grateful to be a human being

sharing life with other beings on this beautiful planet.

I believe we can all become conscious of how much

our survival depends upon

the eradication of nuclear weapons

and of the retaliatory fear that has created them.

The victory of human survival is surely

in destroying weapons not deploying them.

I am stirred by the possibility

that every human being can be enlightened.

Then schemes for war give way to plans for peace.

So I dedicate myself to hold a vision

of the conversion of world leaders,

especially the President of the United States.

May they be so moved

by the power of love for our world

that they exceed in the arts of peace

and succeed in the banning of all nuclear weapons

here and everywhere.

As our protests against war become invitational

rather than adversarial,

we become one family of friends in a universe of light.

In accordance with this vision I now request

that all who represent me and act on my behalf

in the government of the United States of America

renounce the use of nuclear weapons

under any circumstances

and work for a world based on cooperation

rather than a balace of terror.
